Jesus walks on water

22. Immediately after this, Jesus made his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake while he sent the people home. 23. Afterward he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. 24. Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. 25. About three o'clock in the morning Jesus came to them, walking on the water. 26. When the disciples saw him, they screamed in terror, thinking he was a ghost. 27. But Jesus spoke to them at once. "It's all right," he said. "I am here! Don't be afraid." 28. Then Peter called to him, "Lord, if it's really you, tell me to come to you by walking on water." 29. "All right, come," Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. 30. But when he looked around at the high waves, he was terrified and began to sink. "Save me, Lord!" he shouted. 31. Instantly Jesus reached out his hand and grabbed him. "You don't have much faith," Jesus said. "Why did you doubt me?" 32. And when they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. 33. Then the disciples worshiped him. "You really are the Son of God!" they exclaimed.

45. Immediately after this, Jesus made his disciples get back into the boat and head out across the lake to Bethsaida, while he sent the people home. 46. Afterward he went up into the hills by himself to pray. 47. During the night, the disciples were in their boat out in the middle of the lake, and Jesus was alone on land. 48. He saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves. About three o'clock in the morning he came to them, walking on the water. He started to go past them, 49. but when they saw him walking on the water, they screamed in terror, thinking he was a ghost. 50. They were all terrified when they saw him. But Jesus spoke to them at once. "It's all right," he said. "I am here! Don't be afraid." 51. Then he climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were astonished at what they saw. 52. They still didn't understand the significance of the miracle of the multiplied loaves, for their hearts were hard and they did not believe.

16. That evening his disciples went down to the shore to wait for him. 17. But as darkness fell and Jesus still hadn't come back, they got into the boat and headed out across the lake toward Capernaum. 18. Soon a gale swept down upon them as they rowed, and the sea grew very rough. 19. They were three or four miles out when suddenly they saw Jesus walking on the water toward the boat. They were terrified, 20. but he called out to them, "I am here! Don't be afraid." 21. Then they were eager to let him in, and immediately the boat arrived at their destination!
