Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. [Isaiah 66: 1-2]

Jesus drives out an evil spirit from a man in Capernaum

New Living Translation

Mark 1: 21-27

21. Jesus and his companions went to the town of Capernaum, and every Sabbath day he went into the synagogue and taught the people. 22. They were amazed at his teaching, for he taught as one who had real authority--quite unlike the teachers of religious law. 23. A man possessed by an evil spirit was in the synagogue, 24. and he began shouting, "Why are you bothering us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One sent from God!" 25. Jesus cut him short. "Be silent! Come out of the man." 26. At that, the evil spirit screamed and threw the man into a convulsion, but then he left him. 27. Amazement gripped the audience, and they began to discuss what had happened. "What sort of new teaching is this?" they asked excitedly. "It has such authority! Even evil spirits obey his orders!"

Luke 4: 31-36

31. Then Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught there in the synagogue every Sabbath day. 32. There, too, the people were amazed at the things he said, because he spoke with authority. 33. Once when he was in the synagogue, a man possessed by a demon began shouting at Jesus, 34. "Go away! Why are you bothering us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One sent from God." 35. Jesus cut him short. "Be silent!" he told the demon. "Come out of the man!" The demon threw the man to the floor as the crowd watched; then it left him without hurting him further. 36. Amazed, the people exclaimed, "What authority and power this man's words possess! Even evil spirits obey him and flee at his command!"
