Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. [Isaiah 66: 1-2]

    Joshua 3

  • 1. Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shittim and went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over.
  • 2. After three days the officers went throughout the camp,
  • 3. giving orders to the people: "When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests, who are Levites, carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it.
  • 4. Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about a thousand yards between you and the ark; do not go near it."
  • 5. Joshua told the people, "Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you."
  • 6. Joshua said to the priests, "Take up the ark of the covenant and pass on ahead of the people." So they took it up and went ahead of them.
  • 7. And the LORD said to Joshua, "Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses.
  • 8. Tell the priests who carry the ark of the covenant: 'When you reach the edge of the Jordan's waters, go and stand in the river.'"
  • 9. Joshua said to the Israelites, "Come here and listen to the words of the LORD your God.
  • 10. This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites.
  • 11. See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go into the Jordan ahead of you.
  • 12. Now then, choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe.
  • 13. And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the LORD -the Lord of all the earth-set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap."
  • 14. So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them.
  • 15. Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water's edge,
  • 16. the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea ) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho.
  • 17. The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.
  • Psalms 128

  • 1. Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways.
  • 2. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.
  • 3. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table.
  • 4. Thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD.
  • 5. May the LORD bless you from Zion all the days of your life; may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem,
  • 6. and may you live to see your children's children. Peace be upon Israel.
  • Isaiah 63

  • 1. Who is this coming from Edom, from Bozrah, with his garments stained crimson? Who is this, robed in splendor, striding forward in the greatness of his strength? "It is I, speaking in righteousness, mighty to save."
  • 2. Why are your garments red, like those of one treading the winepress?
  • 3. "I have trodden the winepress alone; from the nations no one was with me. I trampled them in my anger and trod them down in my wrath; their blood spattered my garments, and I stained all my clothing.
  • 4. For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redemption has come.
  • 5. I looked, but there was no one to help, I was appalled that no one gave support; so my own arm worked salvation for me, and my own wrath sustained me.
  • 6. I trampled the nations in my anger; in my wrath I made them drunk and poured their blood on the ground."
  • 7. I will tell of the kindnesses of the LORD, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the LORD has done for us- yes, the many good things he has done for the house of Israel, according to his compassion and many kindnesses.
  • 8. He said, "Surely they are my people, sons who will not be false to me"; and so he became their Savior.
  • 9. In all their distress he too was distressed, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and mercy he redeemed them; he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.
  • 10. Yet they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit. So he turned and became their enemy and he himself fought against them.
  • 11. Then his people recalled the days of old, the days of Moses and his people- where is he who brought them through the sea, with the shepherd of his flock? Where is he who set his Holy Spirit among them,
  • 12. who sent his glorious arm of power to be at Moses' right hand, who divided the waters before them, to gain for himself everlasting renown,
  • 13. who led them through the depths? Like a horse in open country, they did not stumble;
  • 14. like cattle that go down to the plain, they were given rest by the Spirit of the LORD. This is how you guided your people to make for yourself a glorious name.
  • 15. Look down from heaven and see from your lofty throne, holy and glorious. Where are your zeal and your might? Your tenderness and compassion are withheld from us.
  • 16. But you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us or Israel acknowledge us; you, O LORD, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name.
  • 17. Why, O LORD, do you make us wander from your ways and harden our hearts so we do not revere you? Return for the sake of your servants, the tribes that are your inheritance.
  • 18. For a little while your people possessed your holy place, but now our enemies have trampled down your sanctuary.
  • 19. We are yours from of old; but you have not ruled over them, they have not been called by your name.
