Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. [Isaiah 66: 1-2]

    Joshua 3

  • 1. And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.
  • 2. And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host;
  • 3. And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.
  • 4. Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.
  • 5. And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.
  • 6. And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.
  • 7. And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.
  • 8. And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan.
  • 9. And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of the LORD your God.
  • 10. And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.
  • 11. Behold, the ark of the covenant of the LORD of all the earth passeth over before you into Jordan.
  • 12. Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of every tribe a man.
  • 13. And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the LORD of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.
  • 14. And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people;
  • 15. And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)
  • 16. That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.
  • 17. And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
  • Psalms 128

  • 1. Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.
  • 2. For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.
  • 3. Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.
  • 4. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.
  • 5. The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.
  • 6. Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel.
  • Isaiah 63

  • 1. Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.
  • 2. Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat?
  • 3. I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.
  • 4. For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.
  • 5. And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me.
  • 6. And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.
  • 7. I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the LORD, and the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he hath bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.
  • 8. For he said, Surely they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Saviour.
  • 9. In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.
  • 10. But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them.
  • 11. Then he remembered the days of old, Moses, and his people, saying, Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock? where is he that put his holy Spirit within him?
  • 12. That led them by the right hand of Moses with his glorious arm, dividing the water before them, to make himself an everlasting name?
  • 13. That led them through the deep, as an horse in the wilderness, that they should not stumble?
  • 14. As a beast goeth down into the valley, the Spirit of the LORD caused him to rest: so didst thou lead thy people, to make thyself a glorious name.
  • 15. Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory: where is thy zeal and thy strength, the sounding of thy bowels and of thy mercies toward me? are they restrained?
  • 16. Doubtless thou art our father, though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledge us not: thou, O LORD, art our father, our redeemer; thy name is from everlasting.
  • 17. O LORD, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our heart from thy fear? Return for thy servants' sake, the tribes of thine inheritance.
  • 18. The people of thy holiness have possessed it but a little while: our adversaries have trodden down thy sanctuary.
  • 19. We are thine: thou never barest rule over them; they were not called by thy name.
