Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. [Isaiah 66: 1-2]

    Deuteronomy 25

  • 1. When men have a dispute, they are to take it to court and the judges will decide the case, acquitting the innocent and condemning the guilty.
  • 2. If the guilty man deserves to be beaten, the judge shall make him lie down and have him flogged in his presence with the number of lashes his crime deserves,
  • 3. but he must not give him more than forty lashes. If he is flogged more than that, your brother will be degraded in your eyes.
  • 4. Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.
  • 5. If brothers are living together and one of them dies without a son, his widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband's brother shall take her and marry her and fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to her.
  • 6. The first son she bears shall carry on the name of the dead brother so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel.
  • 7. However, if a man does not want to marry his brother's wife, she shall go to the elders at the town gate and say, "My husband's brother refuses to carry on his brother's name in Israel. He will not fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to me."
  • 8. Then the elders of his town shall summon him and talk to him. If he persists in saying, "I do not want to marry her,"
  • 9. his brother's widow shall go up to him in the presence of the elders, take off one of his sandals, spit in his face and say, "This is what is done to the man who will not build up his brother's family line."
  • 10. That man's line shall be known in Israel as The Family of the Unsandaled.
  • 11. If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts,
  • 12. you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.
  • 13. Do not have two differing weights in your bag-one heavy, one light.
  • 14. Do not have two differing measures in your house-one large, one small.
  • 15. You must have accurate and honest weights and measures, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
  • 16. For the LORD your God detests anyone who does these things, anyone who deals dishonestly.
  • 17. Remember what the Amalekites did to you along the way when you came out of Egypt.
  • 18. When you were weary and worn out, they met you on your journey and cut off all who were lagging behind; they had no fear of God.
  • 19. When the LORD your God gives you rest from all the enemies around you in the land he is giving you to possess as an inheritance, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget!
  • Psalms 116

  • 1. I love the LORD, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy.
  • 2. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.
  • 3. The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came upon me; I was overcome by trouble and sorrow.
  • 4. Then I called on the name of the LORD: "O LORD, save me!"
  • 5. The LORD is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion.
  • 6. The LORD protects the simplehearted; when I was in great need, he saved me.
  • 7. Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the LORD has been good to you.
  • 8. For you, O LORD, have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling,
  • 9. that I may walk before the LORD in the land of the living.
  • 10. I believed; therefore I said, "I am greatly afflicted."
  • 11. And in my dismay I said, "All men are liars."
  • 12. How can I repay the LORD for all his goodness to me?
  • 13. I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD.
  • 14. I will fulfill my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people.
  • 15. Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
  • 16. O LORD, truly I am your servant; I am your servant, the son of your maidservant; you have freed me from my chains.
  • 17. I will sacrifice a thank offering to you and call on the name of the LORD.
  • 18. I will fulfill my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people,
  • 19. in the courts of the house of the LORD - in your midst, O Jerusalem. Praise the LORD.
  • Isaiah 52

  • 1. Awake, awake, O Zion, clothe yourself with strength. Put on your garments of splendor, O Jerusalem, the holy city. The uncircumcised and defiled will not enter you again.
  • 2. Shake off your dust; rise up, sit enthroned, O Jerusalem. Free yourself from the chains on your neck, O captive Daughter of Zion.
  • 3. For this is what the LORD says: "You were sold for nothing, and without money you will be redeemed."
  • 4. For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "At first my people went down to Egypt to live; lately, Assyria has oppressed them.
  • 5. "And now what do I have here?" declares the LORD. "For my people have been taken away for nothing, and those who rule them mock, "declares the LORD. "And all day long my name is constantly blasphemed.
  • 6. Therefore my people will know my name; therefore in that day they will know that it is I who foretold it. Yes, it is I."
  • 7. How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!"
  • 8. Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices; together they shout for joy. When the LORD returns to Zion, they will see it with their own eyes.
  • 9. Burst into songs of joy together, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the LORD has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem.
  • 10. The LORD will lay bare his holy arm in the sight of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.
  • 11. Depart, depart, go out from there! Touch no unclean thing! Come out from it and be pure, you who carry the vessels of the LORD.
  • 12. But you will not leave in haste or go in flight; for the LORD will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard.
  • 13. See, my servant will act wisely; he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted.
  • 14. Just as there were many who were appalled at him - his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness-
  • 15. so will he sprinkle many nations, and kings will shut their mouths because of him. For what they were not told, they will see, and what they have not heard, they will understand.
