Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. [Isaiah 66: 1-2]

    Exodus 30

  • 1. "Make an altar of acacia wood for burning incense.
  • 2. It is to be square, a cubit long and a cubit wide, and two cubits high -its horns of one piece with it.
  • 3. Overlay the top and all the sides and the horns with pure gold, and make a gold molding around it.
  • 4. Make two gold rings for the altar below the molding-two on opposite sides-to hold the poles used to carry it.
  • 5. Make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.
  • 6. Put the altar in front of the curtain that is before the ark of the Testimony-before the atonement cover that is over the Testimony-where I will meet with you.
  • 7. "Aaron must burn fragrant incense on the altar every morning when he tends the lamps.
  • 8. He must burn incense again when he lights the lamps at twilight so incense will burn regularly before the LORD for the generations to come.
  • 9. Do not offer on this altar any other incense or any burnt offering or grain offering, and do not pour a drink offering on it.
  • 10. Once a year Aaron shall make atonement on its horns. This annual atonement must be made with the blood of the atoning sin offering for the generations to come. It is most holy to the LORD."
  • 11. Then the LORD said to Moses,
  • 12. "When you take a census of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the LORD a ransom for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague will come on them when you number them.
  • 13. Each one who crosses over to those already counted is to give a half shekel, according to the sanctuary shekel, which weighs twenty gerahs. This half shekel is an offering to the LORD.
  • 14. All who cross over, those twenty years old or more, are to give an offering to the LORD.
  • 15. The rich are not to give more than a half shekel and the poor are not to give less when you make the offering to the LORD to atone for your lives.
  • 16. Receive the atonement money from the Israelites and use it for the service of the Tent of Meeting. It will be a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD, making atonement for your lives."
  • 17. Then the LORD said to Moses,
  • 18. "Make a bronze basin, with its bronze stand, for washing. Place it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it.
  • 19. Aaron and his sons are to wash their hands and feet with water from it.
  • 20. Whenever they enter the Tent of Meeting, they shall wash with water so that they will not die. Also, when they approach the altar to minister by presenting an offering made to the LORD by fire,
  • 21. they shall wash their hands and feet so that they will not die. This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants for the generations to come."
  • 22. Then the LORD said to Moses,
  • 23. "Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much (that is, 250 shekels) of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels of fragrant cane,
  • 24. 500 shekels of cassia-all according to the sanctuary shekel-and a hin of olive oil.
  • 25. Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil.
  • 26. Then use it to anoint the Tent of Meeting, the ark of the Testimony,
  • 27. the table and all its articles, the lampstand and its accessories, the altar of incense,
  • 28. the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand.
  • 29. You shall consecrate them so they will be most holy, and whatever touches them will be holy.
  • 30. "Anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them so they may serve me as priests.
  • 31. Say to the Israelites, 'This is to be my sacred anointing oil for the generations to come.
  • 32. Do not pour it on men's bodies and do not make any oil with the same formula. It is sacred, and you are to consider it sacred.
  • 33. Whoever makes perfume like it and whoever puts it on anyone other than a priest must be cut off from his people.'"
  • 34. Then the LORD said to Moses, "Take fragrant spices-gum resin, onycha and galbanum-and pure frankincense, all in equal amounts,
  • 35. and make a fragrant blend of incense, the work of a perfumer. It is to be salted and pure and sacred.
  • 36. Grind some of it to powder and place it in front of the Testimony in the Tent of Meeting, where I will meet with you. It shall be most holy to you.
  • 37. Do not make any incense with this formula for yourselves; consider it holy to the LORD.
  • 38. Whoever makes any like it to enjoy its fragrance must be cut off from his people."
  • John 10

  • 1. "I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber.
  • 2. The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep.
  • 3. The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
  • 4. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.
  • 5. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice."
  • 6. Jesus used this figure of speech, but they did not understand what he was telling them.
  • 7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep.
  • 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.
  • 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture.
  • 10. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
  • 11. "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
  • 12. The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.
  • 13. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.
  • 14. "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me--
  • 15. just as the Father knows me and I know the Father--and I lay down my life for the sheep.
  • 16. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.
  • 17. The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life--only to take it up again.
  • 18. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father."
  • 19. At these words the Jews were again divided.
  • 20. Many of them said, "He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?"
  • 21. But others said, "These are not the sayings of a man possessed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?"
  • 22. Then came the Feast of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter,
  • 23. and Jesus was in the temple area walking in Solomon's Colonnade.
  • 24. The Jews gathered around him, saying, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly."
  • 25. Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do in my Father's name speak for me,
  • 26. but you do not believe because you are not my sheep.
  • 27. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
  • 28. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.
  • 29. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand.
  • 30. I and the Father are one."
  • 31. Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him,
  • 32. but Jesus said to them, "I have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?"
  • 33. "We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God."
  • 34. Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are gods'?
  • 35. If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came--and the Scripture cannot be broken--
  • 36. what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'?
  • 37. Do not believe me unless I do what my Father does.
  • 38. But if I do it, even though you do not believe me, believe the miracles, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father."
  • 39. Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp.
  • 40. Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. Here he stayed
  • 41. and many people came to him. They said, "Though John never performed a miraculous sign, all that John said about this man was true."
  • 42. And in that place many believed in Jesus.
  • Proverbs 7

  • 1. My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you.
  • 2. Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.
  • 3. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.
  • 4. Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call understanding your kinsman;
  • 5. they will keep you from the adulteress, from the wayward wife with her seductive words.
  • 6. At the window of my house I looked out through the lattice.
  • 7. I saw among the simple, I noticed among the young men, a youth who lacked judgment.
  • 8. He was going down the street near her corner, walking along in the direction of her house
  • 9. at twilight, as the day was fading, as the dark of night set in.
  • 10. Then out came a woman to meet him, dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent.
  • 11. (She is loud and defiant, her feet never stay at home;
  • 12. now in the street, now in the squares, at every corner she lurks.)
  • 13. She took hold of him and kissed him and with a brazen face she said:
  • 14. "I have fellowship offerings at home; today I fulfilled my vows.
  • 15. So I came out to meet you; I looked for you and have found you!
  • 16. I have covered my bed with colored linens from Egypt.
  • 17. I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes and cinnamon.
  • 18. Come, let's drink deep of love till morning; let's enjoy ourselves with love!
  • 19. My husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey.
  • 20. He took his purse filled with money and will not be home till full moon."
  • 21. With persuasive words she led him astray; she seduced him with her smooth talk.
  • 22. All at once he followed her like an ox going to the slaughter, like a deer stepping into a noose
  • 23. till an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, little knowing it will cost him his life.
  • 24. Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say.
  • 25. Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths.
  • 26. Many are the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng.
  • 27. Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death.
