Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. [Isaiah 66: 1-2]

    2 Chronicles 17

  • 1. Jehoshaphat his son succeeded him as king and strengthened himself against Israel.
  • 2. He stationed troops in all the fortified cities of Judah and put garrisons in Judah and in the towns of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured.
  • 3. The LORD was with Jehoshaphat because in his early years he walked in the ways his father David had followed. He did not consult the Baals
  • 4. but sought the God of his father and followed his commands rather than the practices of Israel.
  • 5. The LORD established the kingdom under his control; and all Judah brought gifts to Jehoshaphat, so that he had great wealth and honor.
  • 6. His heart was devoted to the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah.
  • 7. In the third year of his reign he sent his officials Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel and Micaiah to teach in the towns of Judah.
  • 8. With them were certain Levites-Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah and Tob-Adonijah-and the priests Elishama and Jehoram.
  • 9. They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD; they went around to all the towns of Judah and taught the people.
  • 10. The fear of the LORD fell on all the kingdoms of the lands surrounding Judah, so that they did not make war with Jehoshaphat.
  • 11. Some Philistines brought Jehoshaphat gifts and silver as tribute, and the Arabs brought him flocks: seven thousand seven hundred rams and seven thousand seven hundred goats.
  • 12. Jehoshaphat became more and more powerful; he built forts and store cities in Judah
  • 13. and had large supplies in the towns of Judah. He also kept experienced fighting men in Jerusalem.
  • 14. Their enrollment by families was as follows: From Judah, commanders of units of 1,000: Adnah the commander, with 300,000 fighting men;
  • 15. next, Jehohanan the commander, with 280,000;
  • 16. next, Amasiah son of Zicri, who volunteered himself for the service of the LORD, with 200,000.
  • 17. From Benjamin: Eliada, a valiant soldier, with 200,000 men armed with bows and shields;
  • 18. next, Jehozabad, with 180,000 men armed for battle.
  • 19. These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
  • Revelation 6

  • 1. I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, "Come!"
  • 2. I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.
  • 3. When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, "Come!"
  • 4. Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a large sword.
  • 5. When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand.
  • 6. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"
  • 7. When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, "Come!"
  • 8. I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.
  • 9. When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained.
  • 10. They called out in a loud voice, "How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?"
  • 11. Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and brothers who were to be killed as they had been was completed.
  • 12. I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red,
  • 13. and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind.
  • 14. The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.
  • 15. Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains.
  • 16. They called to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!
  • 17. For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?"
  • Zechariah 2

  • 1. Then I looked up-and there before me was a man with a measuring line in his hand!
  • 2. I asked, "Where are you going?" He answered me, "To measure Jerusalem, to find out how wide and how long it is."
  • 3. Then the angel who was speaking to me left, and another angel came to meet him
  • 4. and said to him: "Run, tell that young man, 'Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of men and livestock in it.
  • 5. And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,' declares the LORD, 'and I will be its glory within.'
  • 6. "Come! Come! Flee from the land of the north," declares the LORD, "for I have scattered you to the four winds of heaven," declares the LORD.
  • 7. "Come, O Zion! Escape, you who live in the Daughter of Babylon!"
  • 8. For this is what the LORD Almighty says: "After he has honored me and has sent me against the nations that have plundered you-for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye-
  • 9. I will surely raise my hand against them so that their slaves will plunder them. Then you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me.
  • 10. "Shout and be glad, O Daughter of Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you," declares the LORD.
  • 11. "Many nations will be joined with the LORD in that day and will become my people. I will live among you and you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me to you.
  • 12. The LORD will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land and will again choose Jerusalem.
  • 13. Be still before the LORD, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling."
