2 Chronicles 7

• 1. When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.
• 2. The priests could not enter the temple of the LORD because the glory of the LORD filled it.
• 3. When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the LORD above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the LORD, saying, "He is good; his love endures forever."
• 4. Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the LORD.
• 5. And King Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty-two thousand head of cattle and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep and goats. So the king and all the people dedicated the temple of God.
• 6. The priests took their positions, as did the Levites with the LORD's musical instruments, which King David had made for praising the LORD and which were used when he gave thanks, saying, "His love endures forever." Opposite the Levites, the priests blew their trumpets, and all the Israelites were standing.
• 7. Solomon consecrated the middle part of the courtyard in front of the temple of the LORD, and there he offered burnt offerings and the fat of the fellowship offerings, because the bronze altar he had made could not hold the burnt offerings, the grain offerings and the fat portions.
• 8. So Solomon observed the festival at that time for seven days, and all Israel with him-a vast assembly, people from Lebo Hamath to the Wadi of Egypt.
• 9. On the eighth day they held an assembly, for they had celebrated the dedication of the altar for seven days and the festival for seven days more.
• 10. On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people to their homes, joyful and glad in heart for the good things the LORD had done for David and Solomon and for his people Israel.
• 11. When Solomon had finished the temple of the LORD and the royal palace, and had succeeded in carrying out all he had in mind to do in the temple of the LORD and in his own palace,
• 12. the LORD appeared to him at night and said: "I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a temple for sacrifices.
• 13. "When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people,
• 14. if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
• 15. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.
• 16. I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.
• 17. "As for you, if you walk before me as David your father did, and do all I command, and observe my decrees and laws,
• 18. I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with David your father when I said, 'You shall never fail to have a man to rule over Israel.'
• 19. "But if you turn away and forsake the decrees and commands I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them,
• 20. then I will uproot Israel from my land, which I have given them, and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. I will make it a byword and an object of ridicule among all peoples.
• 21. And though this temple is now so imposing, all who pass by will be appalled and say, 'Why has the LORD done such a thing to this land and to this temple?'
• 22. People will answer, 'Because they have forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them-that is why he brought all this disaster on them.'"

2 John 1

• 1. The elder,
• 2. To the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in the truth--and not I only, but also all who know the truth--because of the truth, which lives in us and will be with us forever:
• 3. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father's Son, will be with us in truth and love.
• 4. It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us.
• 5. And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another.
• 6. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
• 7. Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist.
• 8. Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully.
• 9. Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
• 10. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him.
• 11. Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work.
• 12. I have much to write to you, but I do not want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete.
• 13. The children of your chosen sister send their greetings.

Habakkuk 2

• 1. I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint.
• 2. Then the LORD replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.
• 3. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.
• 4. "See, he is puffed up; his desires are not upright- but the righteous will live by his faith -
• 5. indeed, wine betrays him; he is arrogant and never at rest. Because he is as greedy as the grave and like death is never satisfied, he gathers to himself all the nations and takes captive all the peoples.
• 6. "Will not all of them taunt him with ridicule and scorn, saying, "'Woe to him who piles up stolen goods and makes himself wealthy by extortion! How long must this go on?'
• 7. Will not your debtors suddenly arise? Will they not wake up and make you tremble? Then you will become their victim.
• 8. Because you have plundered many nations, the peoples who are left will plunder you. For you have shed man's blood; you have destroyed lands and cities and everyone in them.
• 9. "Woe to him who builds his realm by unjust gain to set his nest on high, to escape the clutches of ruin!
• 10. You have plotted the ruin of many peoples, shaming your own house and forfeiting your life.
• 11. The stones of the wall will cry out, and the beams of the woodwork will echo it.
• 12. "Woe to him who builds a city with bloodshed and establishes a town by crime!
• 13. Has not the LORD Almighty determined that the people's labor is only fuel for the fire, that the nations exhaust themselves for nothing?
• 14. For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
• 15. "Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbors, pouring it from the wineskin till they are drunk, so that he can gaze on their naked bodies.
• 16. You will be filled with shame instead of glory. Now it is your turn! Drink and be exposed! The cup from the LORD's right hand is coming around to you, and disgrace will cover your glory.
• 17. The violence you have done to Lebanon will overwhelm you, and your destruction of animals will terrify you. For you have shed man's blood; you have destroyed lands and cities and everyone in them.
• 18. "Of what value is an idol, since a man has carved it? Or an image that teaches lies? For he who makes it trusts in his own creation; he makes idols that cannot speak.
• 19. Woe to him who says to wood, 'Come to life!' Or to lifeless stone, 'Wake up!' Can it give guidance? It is covered with gold and silver; there is no breath in it.
• 20. But the LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him."
