Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. [Isaiah 66: 1-2]

    Joshua 5

  • 1. Now when all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings along the coast heard how the LORD had dried up the Jordan before the Israelites until we had crossed over, their hearts melted and they no longer had the courage to face the Israelites.
  • 2. At that time the LORD said to Joshua, "Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelites again."
  • 3. So Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the Israelites at Gibeath Haaraloth.
  • 4. Now this is why he did so: All those who came out of Egypt-all the men of military age-died in the desert on the way after leaving Egypt.
  • 5. All the people that came out had been circumcised, but all the people born in the desert during the journey from Egypt had not.
  • 6. The Israelites had moved about in the desert forty years until all the men who were of military age when they left Egypt had died, since they had not obeyed the LORD. For the LORD had sworn to them that they would not see the land that he had solemnly promised their fathers to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
  • 7. So he raised up their sons in their place, and these were the ones Joshua circumcised. They were still uncircumcised because they had not been circumcised on the way.
  • 8. And after the whole nation had been circumcised, they remained where they were in camp until they were healed.
  • 9. Then the LORD said to Joshua, "Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you." So the place has been called Gilgal to this day.
  • 10. On the evening of the fourteenth day of the month, while camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, the Israelites celebrated the Passover.
  • 11. The day after the Passover, that very day, they ate some of the produce of the land: unleavened bread and roasted grain.
  • 12. The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land; there was no longer any manna for the Israelites, but that year they ate of the produce of Canaan.
  • 13. Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, "Are you for us or for our enemies?"
  • 14. "Neither," he replied, "but as commander of the army of the LORD I have now come." Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, "What message does my Lord have for his servant?"
  • 15. The commander of the LORD's army replied, "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy." And Joshua did so.
  • Psalms 132

  • 1. O LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured.
  • 2. He swore an oath to the LORD and made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:
  • 3. "I will not enter my house or go to my bed-
  • 4. I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,
  • 5. till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob."
  • 6. We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar:
  • 7. "Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-
  • 8. arise, O LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might.
  • 9. May your priests be clothed with righteousness; may your saints sing for joy."
  • 10. For the sake of David your servant, do not reject your anointed one.
  • 11. The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: "One of your own descendants I will place on your throne-
  • 12. if your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever."
  • 13. For the LORD has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling:
  • 14. "This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it-
  • 15. I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor will I satisfy with food.
  • 16. I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints will ever sing for joy.
  • 17. "Here I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one.
  • 18. I will clothe his enemies with shame, but the crown on his head will be resplendent."
  • Psalms 133

  • 1. How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!
  • 2. It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron's beard, down upon the collar of his robes.
  • 3. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the LORD bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.
  • Psalms 134

  • 1. Praise the LORD, all you servants of the LORD who minister by night in the house of the LORD.
  • 2. Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the LORD.
  • 3. May the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth, bless you from Zion.
  • Isaiah 65

  • 1. "I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me. To a nation that did not call on my name, I said, 'Here am I, here am I.'
  • 2. All day long I have held out my hands to an obstinate people, who walk in ways not good, pursuing their own imaginations-
  • 3. a people who continually provoke me to my very face, offering sacrifices in gardens and burning incense on altars of brick;
  • 4. who sit among the graves and spend their nights keeping secret vigil; who eat the flesh of pigs, and whose pots hold broth of unclean meat;
  • 5. who say, 'Keep away; don't come near me, for I am too sacred for you!' Such people are smoke in my nostrils, a fire that keeps burning all day.
  • 6. "See, it stands written before me: I will not keep silent but will pay back in full; I will pay it back into their laps-
  • 7. both your sins and the sins of your fathers," says the LORD. "Because they burned sacrifices on the mountains and defied me on the hills, I will measure into their laps the full payment for their former deeds."
  • 8. This is what the LORD says: "As when juice is still found in a cluster of grapes and men say, 'Don't destroy it, there is yet some good in it,' so will I do in behalf of my servants; I will not destroy them all.
  • 9. I will bring forth descendants from Jacob, and from Judah those who will possess my mountains; my chosen people will inherit them, and there will my servants live.
  • 10. Sharon will become a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a resting place for herds, for my people who seek me.
  • 11. "But as for you who forsake the LORD and forget my holy mountain, who spread a table for Fortune and fill bowls of mixed wine for Destiny,
  • 12. I will destine you for the sword, and you will all bend down for the slaughter; for I called but you did not answer, I spoke but you did not listen. You did evil in my sight and chose what displeases me."
  • 13. Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "My servants will eat, but you will go hungry; my servants will drink, but you will go thirsty; my servants will rejoice, but you will be put to shame.
  • 14. My servants will sing out of the joy of their hearts, but you will cry out from anguish of heart and wail in brokenness of spirit.
  • 15. You will leave your name to my chosen ones as a curse; the Sovereign LORD will put you to death, but to his servants he will give another name.
  • 16. Whoever invokes a blessing in the land will do so by the God of truth; he who takes an oath in the land will swear by the God of truth. For the past troubles will be forgotten and hidden from my eyes.
  • 17. "Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.
  • 18. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy.
  • 19. I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more.
  • 20. "Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years; he who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere youth; he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed.
  • 21. They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
  • 22. No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat. For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands.
  • 23. They will not toil in vain or bear children doomed to misfortune; for they will be a people blessed by the LORD, they and their descendants with them.
  • 24. Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.
  • 25. The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but dust will be the serpent's food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain," says the LORD.
