Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. [Isaiah 66: 1-2]

    Deuteronomy 17

  • 1. Thou shalt not sacrifice unto the LORD thy God any bullock, or sheep, wherein is blemish, or any evilfavouredness: for that is an abomination unto the LORD thy God.
  • 2. If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant,
  • 3. And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;
  • 4. And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel:
  • 5. Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.
  • 6. At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.
  • 7. The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among you.
  • 8. If there arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within thy gates: then shalt thou arise, and get thee up into the place which the LORD thy God shall choose;
  • 9. And thou shalt come unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days, and enquire; and they shall shew thee the sentence of judgment:
  • 10. And thou shalt do according to the sentence, which they of that place which the LORD shall choose shall shew thee; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they inform thee:
  • 11. According to the sentence of the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do: thou shalt not decline from the sentence which they shall shew thee, to the right hand, nor to the left.
  • 12. And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel.
  • 13. And all the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously.
  • 14. When thou art come unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me;
  • 15. Thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother.
  • 16. But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.
  • 17. Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.
  • 18. And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites:
  • 19. And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:
  • 20. That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.
  • Psalms 104

  • 1. Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.
  • 2. Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:
  • 3. Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:
  • 4. Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:
  • 5. Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.
  • 6. Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.
  • 7. At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.
  • 8. They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them.
  • 9. Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.
  • 10. He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills.
  • 11. They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst.
  • 12. By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches.
  • 13. He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works.
  • 14. He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;
  • 15. And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart.
  • 16. The trees of the LORD are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted;
  • 17. Where the birds make their nests: as for the stork, the fir trees are her house.
  • 18. The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the conies.
  • 19. He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.
  • 20. Thou makest darkness, and it is night: wherein all the beasts of the forest do creep forth.
  • 21. The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God.
  • 22. The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together, and lay them down in their dens.
  • 23. Man goeth forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening.
  • 24. O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.
  • 25. So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts.
  • 26. There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein.
  • 27. These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season.
  • 28. That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.
  • 29. Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.
  • 30. Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.
  • 31. The glory of the LORD shall endure for ever: the LORD shall rejoice in his works.
  • 32. He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: he toucheth the hills, and they smoke.
  • 33. I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
  • 34. My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD.
  • 35. Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the LORD, O my soul. Praise ye the LORD.
  • Isaiah 44

  • 1. Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen:
  • 2. Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.
  • 3. For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:
  • 4. And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.
  • 5. One shall say, I am the LORD's; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel.
  • 6. Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
  • 7. And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them.
  • 8. Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.
  • 9. They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.
  • 10. Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing?
  • 11. Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together.
  • 12. The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint.
  • 13. The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.
  • 14. He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it.
  • 15. Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.
  • 16. He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire:
  • 17. And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god.
  • 18. They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.
  • 19. And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?
  • 20. He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?
  • 21. Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me.
  • 22. I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.
  • 23. Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.
  • 24. Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;
  • 25. That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;
  • 26. That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:
  • 27. That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:
  • 28. That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.
